fish ball

/fɪʃ bɔl/
IPA guide

Other forms: fish balls

A fish ball is sort of like the chicken nugget of fish: mashed up, balled up pieces of fish, usually fried or boiled in soup. Delicious!

If you get a fillet of fish, you’re getting a slice of a fish, from its side. But what should you do with all the little pieces of fish that are left over after you’ve cut the fillets? Chop them up and mash them into fish balls! Fish balls are especially common in many kinds of Asian cooking, usually put into soup.
